James Frederick Livingstone

Alfred Livingstone document; Ellis Island web site: traveled on Etruria, arrived Oct 3,1903 from Liverpool

Edward Livingstone

Alfred Livingstone document.  Seen here with second wife Martha

1881 Census: Lancashire, Wigan, District 21
shows him at 34 Lorne St, age 7, scholar, living with his mother and grandparents

Census (1891, District 13, Wigan, Lancashire, England) shows
him living with his mother in his grandparent's home
at 27 Nevilla St., Wigan, age 17, occupation Drawer (coal mine).

Marriage certificate says he was 20, a bachelor, residing at 1 Bauer
(Bausy?) Street, Makerfield, Lancashire, England. His occupation listed on the marriage certificate was Collier, which is a coal mine worker.  He emigrated in 1900 (? as stated on the 1930 cenus, but he was in the 1901 England Census) or sometime before 1903 (when his wife and children emigrated to join him), and his occupation was listed as an engineer. According to Susan Williams, he traveled back and forth between England and the US often -- I wonder if this is perhaps because of his job as a saleman for an engineering firm. After Charlotte died, he married Martha Chatterly, widow.
He later became president of the Board of Education in Paterson, Passaic, New Jersey. In 1903 he resided on at 170 16th Ave., Patterson, and later at 269 Hamilton Avenue in Paterson, Passaic, New Jersey.

His WWI draft card
at age 45 lists occupation as Engineer/Salesman, employed by the Jewel Engineering Co, 140 Market St, Patterson; his residence was
717 14th Ave., Paterson. Closest relative was son Walter Livingstone, living at the same address. Edward was listed as short (5'4"), 155 lb., with brown eyes and dark brown hair.

Social Security Death index says his SSN was 157-09-0034.

1930 census shows him living at 269 Hamilton Ave., Paterson with Martha, her daughter Lucy, Lucy's husband Charles Norburn, and Lucy's daughter Rita.

His obituary, saved by grandson Charles, read:

Born in Wigan, Lancashire County, England, he was a Paterson resident since 1903.  Active in business, civil and fraternal affairs, he was a member of the Board of Education from 1921 to 1930.  Besides serving as President of the School Board, he also had headed the New Jersey Federation of Boards of Education.

He was a member of Paterson's Grange Lodge 43 F & AM and he was a Master of the Fraternal Group in 1912 & 1913.  He was a charter member and former Secretary of Fidalis Masonic Lodge 243 which he helped organize.   He was also a member of the New Jersey Grand Lodge of the Masonic Order.

He leaves three Sons, Fred of Paterson, Walter of East Paterson and Alfred of Fair Lawn, retired Eastside High School physical Education teacher, eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  Another son Thomas died last year.

Martha Chatterly

Picture of her with Edward in family archives, no more information.

Susan Williams email 4/5/07 gave me Martha's last name (which is likely
a married name) and said Martha's daughter Lucy and Lucy's husband Charles
emigrated to the US and were living with Martha and Edward at
269 Hamilton Ave. Paterson City, Passaic County, New Jersey
in the 1930 census.  Also, according to Susan, "Edward and Martha made many trips back to England to visit family, Martha had other children still living in Wigan."

1930 census shows her living in Paterson with Edward.

John McCloud

Birth certificate is in error.  Says name is Jno. McClaud (Jonathan?) and date was 11/19/1895, not 11/25/1896.

Resided at 436 E. 24th St., Paterson, NJ for many years, upstairs from Jane and James Krieger.  Moved to 22 Atlantic Avenue in Ocean Grove, NJ upon retirement.

Served as driver for a general (?) in WWI  in Europe.  SSDI birth date is 11/19. Worked for Schmitt Structural Steel

Irene Margaret Young

Resided at 436 E. 24th St. Paterson, NJ for many years, upstairs from sister Jane Krieger.  Moved to 22 Atlantic Ave. Ocean Grove where she lived until her stroke.  Aunt Irene was the last driver among her peers -- she drove her sisters and friends around. She collected all kinds of miniature shoes -- china, glass, leather, plastic.  She loved Scrabble.  She and Jane operated the MacKreg Cottage - a boarding house for summer guests for many years.

Death date is from SS Death index.
I recall Aunt Irene having a stroke shortly after her sister Jane's stroke;
She was moved to a nursing home where she died after several years.
