Stephen James Rees

Accident Report - November 18, 1966 - Contra Costa Times
A spectacular crash, in which an auto and a three-quester ton Army truck both rolled down a 60-foot embacnkment, resulted in death for a young man Thursday afternoon and the hospitalization of a young Martinez woman, described as in critcal condition.
The California Highway Patrol was notified of the accident at 1:25 pm.  It occurred near the intersection of Highway 4 and Camino Andres, West Pittsubrg.
The young man, tentatively identified as Stephen James Rees, 25, of 605 Orchard Lane, Hayward, was pronounced dead on arrival at the County Hospital at 2:02 pm.  Miss Charlotte Moat, 20, of 1050 Vine, Martinez, was admitted to the hospital, where she is being treated for head injuries.
Rescue crews from Company 7 of the Contra Costa Consolidated Fire District were called upon to extricate Rees from the wreckage.
Miss Moat was westbound behind the Army ammunition carrier, a cargo vehicle belonging to the Concord National Guard, when she attempted to pass, the CHP reported.  The right side of her car struck the left rear of the truck, sending it down the embankment; she them lost control of her car and followed the truck down the slope, according to the report.
The truck landed upside down with Rees pinned in the cab.  The auto also flipped over and landed with the front portion of it in the middle of the truck, so that the car had to be removed and the truck righted before Rees could be freed.
