Uncle John Jones owned the Hoover Vacuum Cleaner Company office for the district (five stores) office in Chicago. Howard belonged to a racing bicycle club in Madison when grown.
Roland got a job at the Hoover Company at age 16 in Chicago where he learned to repair and sell vacuum cleaners. When he was 22, he was service manager. The Hoover Company dissolved the District office and everybody was thrown out of work. Ward had a separate business selling bumpers for cars - bumpers were accessories at that time.
The baby Howard was still born.
