A newspaper article on Claus' 90th birthday in 1854 The date must be June 6, 1954. There is a photo with the article. Well Known Boone Couple Observing 90th Birthdays A well known Boone resident, C. G. Lind, 1728 Crawford street, was honored at a party Sunday afternoon, June 6th, in observance of his 90th birthday. From 2 to 4 o'clock, fifty-eight friends called at the home of Mr. Lind's son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Lind, 409 College, to extend birthday greetings to the honoree and reminisce about the "good old days". Shown in the picture with Mr. Lind is his wife, who will be 90 years of age August 10th. She has been Mr. Lind's companion for the past 16 years and was also honored in recognition of her forthcoming birthday. One of the boys who was at the children's home at Stanton, where Mr. Lind was superintendent for sixteen years, came from his home in Red Oak, Iowa, to be his "Pa" once again. Many of the guests enclosed gifts of money in their birthday cards. Mr. Lind is sending the money to the Iowa Lutheran Welfare fund to be used for the needs of children of today, so, in his 90th year, Mr. Lind is dedicating the money he received to the kingdom of God. Pastor Einar Oberg, who left Boone last week for Chicago, had written a letter of greeting to Mr. Lind, the birthday message being read to the assembled guests. [We have a copy of this letter, too.] During the afternoon, birthday cake, ice cream and coffee were served buffet style by the honoree's daughter-in-law, Mrs. G. T. Lind, assisted by her daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Gildersleeve of Gilbert, who presided at the coffee service, Mrs. Esther Anderson of Fort Dodge and Miss Betsy Munson of Gilbert. Mr. Lind has two children, Mrs. Esther Anderson of Fort Dodge and G. T. Lind of Boone, and he also has six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
