An obituary for Claus Lind -- Obituary Claus Gustav Lind Funeral services for Claus Gustav Lind were held at the Augustana Lutheran Church on Wednesday, April 13, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Eugene K. Nelson in charge. Pastor and Mrs. Reuben Carlson of Dayton sang two duets, one of them in the Swedish language, accompanied by Miss Kathryn Anderson on the organ. Pallbearers were Dr. O. W. Julander, J. Harold Peterson, Axel Nordberg, and A. C. Jacobson of Boone, and Arthur Youngdale and Frank Peterson of Paton. Interment was at the Dayton cemetery. Claus Gustav Lind was born in Hvetlanda, Smaland, Sweden, June 11, 1864, and died at his home in Boone, April 11, 1955, thus lacking two months of living 91 years. He was baptized at the age of two weeks, and was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church throughout his life. He started school in the fall of 1871 and completed the preliminary grades six years later. In July, 1880 he started as an apprentice in a furniture shop where he worked for three years. In the spring of 1883, he left Sweden for America, arriving in Pilot Mound on April 18 of that year. He hired out to a farmer in that community and began at once to take an active part in the Grant Center Congregation which is now, Trinity Lutheran Church of Boxholm. When the church was built, he drew the plans for it and helped with the construction. In 1889 Mr.~Lind moved to Dayton. Here he met his wife-to-be, Anna Carlson who was a school teacher emplyed by the Dayton congregation. They were united in marriage December 23, 1890, and to this union five children were born. Two daughters died in infancy. The youngest son, Philip, died at the age of 23 years in 1927. In the early part of 1892, the young couple was called to take charge of the Lutheran Children's Home at Stanton, Ia. They held this position for 15 years, and then held a similar job at Vasa, Minn., for two years. At both places they were very much interested in Sunday School and congregational work. The Women's organization of the Stanton congregation was organized in their home in 1892. Both Mr. and Mrs. Lind sang in the choir. Mr. Lind was a charter member of the Brotherhood. After returning to Dayton in 1912, the Linds bought a farm north of town and farmed until 1925 when they sold out and moved to town. Mrs. Lind preceded him in death November 8, 1932, and three years later, Mr. Lind moved from Dayton to Boone, where he lived the remainder of his life, and engaged in carpentry and painting. Mr. Lind was united in marriage to Mrs. Alice Wiley in 1938. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Esther Anderson of Fort Dodge; a son, G. T. Lind of Boone; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Odessa Lind Erickson of Perry, and Mrs. G. T. Lind of Boone; six grandchildren, Mrs. Ralph Gill of Perry, Mrs. Jerome Buller of Green Bay, Wis., Mrs. Richard Grayson, Karin Lind and Janice Lind all of Perryville, Mo., and Mrs. Eugene Goodspeed of Boone; 11 great grandchildren besides many other relatives and friends.
