Johnson, 82 POSTED: July 4, 2008 Howard Martin Johnson, 82, of Marshalltown, entered into eternal life June 28, 2008, at Villa Del Sol Health Care Center in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Laurel United Methodist Church in Laurel. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Laurel United Methodist Church or Iowa River Hospice. Howard Martin Johnson was born on Feb. 22, 1926, in Paton, Iowa, the son of Martin and Magdeline (Kinne) Johnson. He grew up in the area of his birth and graduated in 1944 from Kelley High School in Kelley, Iowa. In October 1949, he married Pearl Abramson in Boone and together they were blessed with three children. Howard worked on farms in Boone and Story counties before moving to Marshalltown in 1952. He accepted employment at Lennox Industries where he worked assembly lines, maintenance and the last 10 years as a heavy punch press operator. On Oct. 17, 1987, he was united in marriage to Loretta Maytag of Laurel. They made their home in Laurel and later in Marshalltown. Howard retired from Lennox in 1988 after more than 36 years of service. He was a member of Laurel United Methodist Church and the Cyclone Country Ramblers Chapter \#338 of Holiday Rambler Recreational Vehicle Club. Howard was also an avid amateur radio operator holding the call letters WA0LFL. He was a Boy Scout leader and he loved to dance and travel. He was a good and faithful husband who never complained of his fate in life. He will be missed by his wife, Loretta, of Marshalltown; his three children: Walter (Lee) Johnson of St. Paul, Minn., Carl (Sybel) Johnson of Des Moines, Wash. and Loren (Renae) Johnson of Huxley; his stepson, Dean (Stephanie) Maytag of Colgate, Wis.; stepdaughter, Denise (Mike) Cordes of Lincoln, Neb.; his sister, Anna Butler of Marshalltown; his granddaughters, Laura and Eleanor Johnson of Des Moines, Wash., and Allison Maytag of Colgate, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother-in-law, John Butler.
